Boot Camp Expands Support for Childbirth Educators |
| |
| Boot Camp started by working with childbirth educators at Irvine Medical Center in 1990, and has partnered with them ever since. We have regularly exhibited at the Lamaze and ICEA Conferences, and lately have been able to ramp up out support. Greg Bishop was selected to present Boot Camp and best practices in supporting fathers in childbirth education classes at the 2006 Lamaze International Conference in Boston. He presented to a full house of 78 and the response was highly enthusiastic. There were requests to turn our pictures of babies working on engines into posters that the childbirth educators can use to make men more comfortable in their classes, as well as requests for more information on what they can do to support the needs of the fathers in their classes. To this end we are developing a Childbirth Education Resource Center on our new BCND.org website that will gather and disseminate tips and techniques that childbirth educators can use in their classes. Margie Wallace has been particularly helpful and gave a presentation to the entire ICEA Conference on supporting fathers in childbirth education classes. Our intention is to make this component of our website the focal point for childbirth educators nationally who are interested in doing the best job possible for the fathers in their classes. |
